Round Pillow Dog Bed Pattern

"It's soft, round and easy to make"

Round Pillow Dog Bed Pattern

Have you ever seen how dogs curl up for sleeping? I was watching my dog the other day and noticed how comfortable she was in this position… inspiration hit me and I came up with this dog bed pattern.

This bed is like a round pillow but with a button in the middle. The button makes a dent and creates a nice comfortable nest for the pup to curl up.

It's soft, it's round and it's easy to make! What better way to treat your dog to a new bed.

It doesn't matter if your pet is large or small, he needs a place to rest and call his own.

Give this bed a try, I'm sure he'll really like it. Plus, it has a side zipper that makes it easily washable.

Here are the dog bed pattern instructions.

Supplies

  • 10" zipper
  • Polyester fiber fill
  • Upholstery fabric
  • Large button
  • Thin cord
  • Glue

How to make the bed

  1. Find a circle large enough for your dog to fit in. This will be your dog bed pattern. You can use a big lid, a bucket or trace one on paper. Use it to cut two circles of fabric
  2. Pin them together with their right sides of fabric facing each other. Sew them together with a stitch 6" long, leave 10" without sewing and then sew another 6". Use a 1/2" seam allowance.
  3. Hand baste the 10" open space.

  4. Press the seams open.
  5. Remove the hand basting. You should have a hole with the edges pressed towards the inside.

  6. Place your zipper in the opening and match its edges to the fabric's. Hand baste them together.

  7. Sew them together with a 3/8" seam allowance.
  8. Clip the seams (only from the part you've already sewn) and press on the right side. Your zipper should be hiding between the two circles, it should look something like this:

  9. Sew a rectangle around your zipper on the right side of fabric. The hard part is done!

  10. Sew the rest of the circle closed and trim the edges with a pair of pinking shears. This will stop the fabric from fraying. You could also finish the edges with a serger or zig zag stitch.
  11. Make small cuts on the seam allowance all the way around the circle and turn inside out.

How to make the button

  1. Cut two fabric circles. One should be the same size as your button and the other one should measure twice your button's diameter.
  2. Cut the small circle's edge with pinking shears so that it doesn't come undone. You don't have to do this but it'll make it easier to work with.
  3. Double thread a needle and hand baste around the large circle's edge. Make a knot at the beginning, but leave a long thread at the end.

  6. Sew a few small stitches to keep the thread from sliding and knot.

  7. Put some glue on top of the gathered fabric and paste the small circle. Cover the small circle's edges with glue so they don't come undone. Wait until it's completely dry.

  8. Thread a needle with a long piece of cord and make it go through the center of the pillow. Leave a long piece on the bottom and on the top.
  9. Next, put the needle across the back of your fabric button.

  10. Pull it out and then put it back in to make a loop.

  11. Insert the needle through the pillow, right beside the first piece of cord.

  12. You should now have the button on one side and two long pieces of cord on the other one. Knot them together and clip the excess. Let the cord be loose so that you can stuff the pillow.

  13. Open the zipper, stuff the pillow and try it!
